Hey! It's another EP. The band has been cranking them out this year. This is the fifth! And, again, it has five terrific songs by the band, mostly focused on their dreampop side, with a dash of Shoegaze. We tried some different things with the production on this one, leaving a lot more space and really cranking the drums. As Blaise Barton, our stalwart mastering engineer wasn't available this round, the set was mastered in the UK by someone the label chose, who did a good job. But, that is a primary reason this set sounds louder, cleaner, and flatter, but change is good. We still recorded much of it analog, though, so it's warm and even a bit murky in parts. For my money, the EP contains two of my favorite-ever songs by the band, "Glass Cabinet" and "White Witch." Marcus, the drummer, really shines on "Prescription Headphones," one of the popiest and fastest of their songs. Hannah, the bass player, crushes it everywhere with simple but effective grooves, ala TALKING HEADS. And, as always, Alice knows just the right three words to convey the emotion, and Daisy knows just the right chorused guitar arpeggio to see the hell out of the rock. I'm beginning to think this (quickly) growing catalog is the best work I've ever been involved with, as this band far outshines OO OO WA and TRAVEL. Still no commercial breakthrough, but artistically it's totally on the top of its game. "Future Plaza" was, in fact, a 10-song album, just like "Introducing The Loud Bangs" originally had been, that has now been split into two parts. "Future Plaza" is the first EP, followed by "Salvation Memorial Hospital" in Dec 2022 that's the other half of the record. We may add / cut / reorder some songs, but that's the basic deal. After then, unsure if the band will get picked up again, but it's been a helluva run! |
