Judging by the ramshackle beats and clunky samples it's doubtful that the mysterious DJ Powda has listened to a rap record in the last five years. This isn't the slick world of Jay-Z but the prankish spirit of the lo-fi crowd comes through loud and clear. Sophomoric stories straight out of suburbia are laid out over samples that are clever but jarringly off their beats. ABBA, Hall & Oates, and the traveling billboard from Blade Runner all show up in samples and the Cosby kids get a shoutout. Hardly gangsta but straight-up pranksta, Fight the Powda is probably half as fun to listen to as it was to make. - David Jeffries, AllMusic.com
